Alex Cochrane Architects were commissioned to design Selfridges new eyewear department as a focal point for the recently refurbished ground floor Accessories Hall by David Chipperfield Architects.

At over 4000SqFt this is the largest eyewear department in the world. Over 2,200 eyewear styles are presented.

Carefully developed terrazzo walls and displays are set against the warmer tones of brass, rosewood and blue fabric. Bright, fresh colours add a positive and playful punch to the five feature walls each presenting a unique display format.

In contrast, the treatment rooms and the waiting room is lined in blue and grey fabric ensuring a softer, quieter and more intimate environment.

The Absolute Area is presented as Selfridges premium eyewear offering. Glazed niches with an electric blue background and brass surrounds are set within environmentally-sound rosewood lined walls forming a gallery. This is where you come to buy extraordinary limited-edition eyewear. A solid marble counter with inset lined pads and circular brass mirrors marks the center of the room.
